About H/L Ventures: Founded in 2009, H/L Ventures is a New York–based venture firm that builds and backs companies at the intersection of high-impact and high-growth, supporting exceptional founders through a unique active engagement model. The firm includes H/L Studio for early-stage startups, CityRock Venture Partners for high-growth companies, and H/L Strategies for corporate consulting. This integrated approach provides long-term, hands-on support across the full lifecycle of a company.
The Position: H/L seeks an enthusiastic, innovative, and dedicated Venture Fellow for a paid, part-time, project-based position. The role involves assisting in the first-line evaluation of start-ups, the due diligence process, and supporting existing portfolio companies.
Areas of Responsibilities:
- Conducting due diligence, financial modeling, and general market research.
- Reviewing business plans, financial models, and other materials of potential candidate companies.
- Taking part in phone screens and meetings during the due diligence process.
- Producing internal memos and diligence reports on candidate companies.
- Assisting in projects, analysis, and other value-add work for existing portfolio companies.
Preferred Experience:
- Demonstrated exposure to venture capital or startup investing, with a focus on due diligence, underwriting, or market research.
- Experience evaluating early-stage companies — including business models, competitive landscapes, and market sizing.
- Familiarity with writing investment memos or similar analysis.
- Background in VC, accelerator programs, investment banking, strategy consulting, or startup operations is a plus.
Key Traits: The ideal candidate will be professional, hard-working, proactive, and a critical thinker. They must possess a strong work ethic, a positive team-player attitude, and excellent organizational and communication skills.
Qualifications:
- Excellent academic performance; at least a Bachelor’s Degree.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; facility with Pitchbook and other research tools is helpful.
