The Role: The Associate will support the sourcing, evaluation, and execution of early-stage investments in frontier technologies across deeptech and adjacent sectors. You will also assist in portfolio management and value creation initiatives alongside senior team members.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Sourcing: Identify high-quality investment opportunities by leveraging industry networks, deep market research, AI tools, and conducting proactive outreach.

2. Thesis Building: Build and evolve investment theses by mapping innovation frontiers, analyzing emerging technologies, identifying whitespace opportunities, and assessing scalability and global relevance.

3. Due Diligence: Support due diligence processes, including advanced market analysis, tech/product validation, financial modeling, competitive landscaping, risk assessment, and synthesizing insights.

4. Data & AI: Leverage data and AI tools to enhance deal sourcing, automate insights extraction, benchmark startups, and streamline investment workflows.

5. Deal Execution: Support term sheet negotiations, draft investment memos, coordinate with legal and finance teams, and manage transaction documentation and closure.

6. Portfolio Management: Work with portfolio companies on value creation, strategy, org buildout, business development, capital planning, and performance tracking.

7. Ecosystem Leadership: Contribute to Avaana’s presence in industry dialogues, founder communities, accelerators, and thought-leadership forums.

Required Qualifications and Attributes:

1. Experience: 2-4 years of experience in investing, strategy consulting, or operating roles at high-growth startups or large enterprises.

2. Sector Interest: Exposure to frontier sectors (energy, mobility, industrials, manufacturing, robotics, biotech, AI) is a plus.

3. Mindset: Highly motivated, self-starter with a strong ownership mindset, bold imagination, and deep intellectual curiosity.

4. Analytical Skills: Experience in qualitative analysis, research, and business case development; ability to conduct primary/secondary research and connect signals across disciplines.

5. Tech Savvy: Comfort with using AI-powered tools (e.g., GPT, web scrapers, data visualizers) to augment research and automate workflows.

6. Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to distill complex ideas clearly and influence stakeholders.

7. Integrity: Impeccable standards of integrity, confidentiality, and judgment.
