Job Description

As an Investment Director, you will play a pivotal role in identifying, evaluating, and executing investment opportunities that align with our firm’s investment thesis.

Leveraging your extensive experience in venture capital and a deep understanding of the European startup ecosystem, you will be responsible for driving investment decisions and managing portfolio companies to maximize returns.

Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the sourcing, evaluation, and due diligence process for potential investment opportunities in European early-stage startups, with a specific focus on Deeptech, Environment, Climate & Energy sectors.
  2. Conduct comprehensive market research and analysis to identify emerging trends, technologies, and investment opportunities within the target sectors.
  3. Build and maintain a strong network within the European startup ecosystem, including entrepreneurs, co-investors, industry experts, and other relevant stakeholders.
  4. Structure and negotiate investment terms, including deal structuring, valuation analysis, and legal documentation.
  5. Actively participate in portfolio company management, providing strategic guidance, operational support, and facilitating follow-on funding rounds.
  6. Monitor and evaluate portfolio performance, identifying key growth drivers, risks, and opportunities to optimize investment returns.
  7. Collaborate closely with the investment team to develop and execute investment strategies that align with the firm’s overall objectives.
  8. Represent the firm at industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities to enhance visibility and build relationships with key stakeholders.

Preferred Experience

Experience:

  1. (Mandatory) 5 to 10 years of relevant & concrete experience in venture capital (VC or CVC) with a proven track record of successfully sourcing, executing, and managing investments in early-stage startups.
  2. Demonstrated experience in the Deeptech & Energy sectors, with a strong understanding of market dynamics, technological innovations, and investment trends.
  3. Prior experience working with European startups and a deep network within the European startup ecosystem.

Hard Skills:

  1. Strong financial acumen, including financial modeling, valuation analysis, and due diligence.
  2. Excellent analytical skills with the ability to assess market opportunities, competitive landscapes, and investment risks.
  3. Proficiency in deal structuring, negotiation, and legal documentation.
  4. Solid understanding of investment processes and regulatory requirements within the venture capital industry.
  5. Scientific background or equivalent experience in a scientific field, such as engineering, physics, chemistry, or biotechnology, providing a strong foundation for evaluating deep tech startups.

Soft Skills:

  1. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with entrepreneurs, investors, and other stakeholders.
  2. Proactive and results-oriented mindset with a strong sense of initiative and drive to achieve objectives.
  3. Exceptional problem-solving skills and ability to navigate complex and ambiguous situations.
  4. Collaborative team player with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  5. Strong leadership capabilities with the ability to influence and inspire others towards common goals.

Education:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline, such as engineering, physics, chemistry. Advanced degrees (e.g., PhD, MBA) are advantageous but not mandatory.
