About the Investor Role:
The Investor role at Samsung Next provides individuals with an opportunity to establish and/or expand a career as a venture investor. Investors work directly with experienced Managing Directors to develop and augment their venture investment skills. Investors are given as much responsibility as quickly as they can manage, while working with the backing of one of the world’s best consumer technology brands. Individuals in this position will gain exposure to a high quantity of deals, source deals and bring them to close, partner with portfolio companies post-investment and understand startups at a variety of stages and in a variety of verticals.
This role will focus primarily on Healthtech investing, and secondarily on Samsung Next’s other focus areas of Fintech and AI. As such, the role requires a professional background and network in healthcare which may come through industry experience, consulting, startups, investing, etc.
The Investor role at Samsung Next provides individuals with a unique opportunity to establish a career as a venture investor. No prior investing experience is required as Samsung Next offers a three-year development program for individuals to learn the fundamentals of investing. This role is not targeted for seasoned investors.
This is a hybrid position requiring regular in-office days. Additionally, due to the global nature of our work, weekly and occasional evening and/or early morning meetings are required.
Responsibilities:
- Source investment opportunities. This will first and foremost involve growing, establishing and leveraging strong relationships with founders and investors in our key focus areas of AI, robotics, edge infrastructure, blockchain, healthtech, mediatech, and fintech.
- Evaluate early-stage investment opportunities with thorough due diligence on technology, team, market, and product.
- Communicate investment cases effectively from deal discussion through deal closure.
- Contribute to learnings and insights by developing a sharp and informed point of view communicated through written investment memos and active participation in deal discussion.
- Provide a supportive and responsive experience to the founders and builders we work with.
Required Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree
- Highly successful 3+ years of business or technical experience in healthcare. Additional exposure in Fintech and/or AI preferred.
- Genuinely intellectually curious and driven – embraces new challenges and change
- Adept at developing and maintaining relationships
- Thrives at playing many positions in an unstructured environment
- Displays high EQ and is a team oriented contributor
- Demonstrated passion for technology and startups.
- Outstanding analytical skills – able to simplify the complex, synthesize information and provide pointed insights
- Available to travel regularly
- Outstanding communication skills both written and verbal
Additional Qualifications:
- Established professional network in the startup community an important plus
- Previous investment (angel or other) background
