The Role: The Associate will support the sourcing, evaluation, and execution of early-stage investments in frontier technologies across deeptech and adjacent sectors, and assist in portfolio management and value creation initiatives alongside senior team members.
Key Responsibilities:
- Sourcing high-quality investment opportunities by leveraging industry networks, deep market research, AI tools, and conducting proactive outreach.
- Building and continuously evolving investment theses by mapping innovation frontiers, analyzing emerging technologies, and identifying whitespace opportunities.
- Supporting due diligence processes, including advanced market analysis, tech/product validation, financial modeling, and competitive landscaping.
- Leveraging data and AI tools to enhance deal sourcing, automate insights extraction, benchmark startups, and streamline investment workflows.
- Supporting deal execution by supporting term sheet negotiations, drafting investment memos, and coordinating with legal and finance teams.
- Working with portfolio companies on value creation & strategic guidance on strategy, org buildout, and business development.
- Contributing to ecosystem leadership by representing Avaana in industry dialogues, founder communities, and accelerators.
Required Qualifications and Attributes:
- 2-4 years of experience in investing, strategy consulting, or operating roles at high-growth startups or large enterprises.
- Exposure to frontier sectors (energy, mobility, industrials, manufacturing, robotics, biotech, AI) is a plus.
- A highly motivated, self-starter with a strong owner-mindset, bold imagination, and deep intellectual curiosity.
- Experience in qualitative analysis, research, and business case development.
- Comfort with using AI-powered tools (e.g., GPT, web scrapers, data visualizers) to augment research and automate workflows.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Impeccable standards of integrity, confidentiality, and judgment.
