Venture Capital Job – Investment Associate – BoldCap

BoldCap introduction:

BoldCap is an early-stage AI fund focused on backing Indian entrepreneurs building global B2B software products. We are looking to invest in 15-20 companies in the next 24 months, and we are looking to hire an investment associate who can be a part of the core investment team. We are high conviction capital, i.e. we don’t spray and pray. We are extremely hands-on with our portfolio founders to help them with their global GTM.

Since 2021, we have backed 17 startups in the following themes – Vertical software, AI led services, Cyber security, Data and Dev infrastructure companies. Some of our Portfolio companies are – TestSigma, Spendflo, Spotdraft, Mailmodo, Lucidity, Locofy, Suprsend, Reint, Discern Security, Enkrypt, Petavue. We have also successfully exited one of our portfolio companies Togai to Zuora, which is a publicly listed US company. Our co-investors/follow on investors include – Accel, Sequoia Surge, Alpha Wave, Premji, Prosus, Strive, Golden Gate Ventures, January Capital, 021 Capital, Mass Mutual Ventures, Together, Blume, 3one4, Beenext and our companies have raised over $100M+ capital.

Why AI & SaaS and why India?

Enterprise AI is the new face of enterprise software, and we believe this is the first time after 10-15 years there is grounds up technology disruption (the last one being cloud infrastructure) that can truly disrupt how enterprises build, interact, and engage with software. The SaaS opportunity was the fastest growing ($250B+ revenue across tools and growing fast) until AI became mainstream and we believe the market opportunity is atleast 10X bigger.

Indian founders were always playing catch up on the market, but this is the first time in history that there is a level playing field for us to build at the same time as other US based founders. This is a good time to be a VC if you are BOLD.

A day of an associate @Boldcap

• Assist the analyst teams on sourcing: Help them prioritize dealflow, work alongside them when there is an extra hand needed.
• Building a deeper thesis within the funds focus areas, evaluate investment opportunities and speaking with existing companies in these categories, pitch to IC, tag team with GP to make an investment
• Put together reports on the market, new trends, and learnings from other operators that we can share with portfolio founders, LPs, and other ecosystem partners
• Build and nurture relationships within the ecosystem

Who should be applying for this role?

First, let me tell you who shouldn’t apply: If you think investing is glamorous, you love instant gratifications and are not technical. But, on the other hand, you should apply if you don’t fall into the above categories and are genuinely interested in spotting the next Salesforce from India.

These are critical must-have skills/experiences:

• Research capabilities – What/how/where to search
• Critical thinking – Most opportunities might not be obvious, its critical to be able to visualise the future tech landscape and identify opportunities
• Extensive reading/learning interest – Live in the product world, try new products every day, and learn how they solve customer problems
• Be Technical – We are an AI fund, and being comfortable talking the tech lingo is essential to win the founder’s trust even during an evaluation
• Relatable work experience (4-5 years of relevant experience) – Either an ex-founder, or early stage investor at a Seed/Series A fund or invested in a personal capacity in several companies, or worked at a fast growing startup as chief of staff/GTM/Sales/product
• Worked in a competitive/high-stress environment – VC isn’t for everyone, it’s not a 9-5 job, it has high fiduciary responsibility, and it’s always a small high-performance team

Below are good to have, but of course we believe if you are interested, you might be able to pick up these skills:

• Capturing data – Early stage involves a lot of data asymmetry, so constantly capturing data can help the organisation build knowledge
