Venture Capital Job – Principal – Piper Serica

About Piper Serica: Piper Serica VC Fund, launched in 2022, is a $40M early-stage venture capital fund managed by Mumbai-based Piper Serica, overseeing ₹1,300 Cr in assets across PMS, offshore FPI, and angel investments. The fund targets revenue-generating tech startups in semicon, spacetech, AI, fintech, advanced electronics, robotics, and more, using AI-assisted screening. It is currently raising Bharat Tech Fund, a Rs. 800 crore fund that will continue to follow the same investment strategy with larger cheque sizes.

Role Summary: We seek a Principal with at least 5 years of direct investment experience in tech startups to evaluate opportunities, shape theses with founders, and engage the ecosystem. Reporting to the Head of Investments, this role drives deal flow in Bengaluru’s vibrant startup scene.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Evaluate investment opportunities: Source, screen, and perform due diligence on early-stage tech startups, assessing market fit, scalability, financials, and team strength.

2. Collaborate with founders: Develop and refine investment theses, conduct deep dives into business models, and provide strategic guidance pre- and post-investment.

3. Engage the startup ecosystem: Build networks with founders, co-investors, accelerators, and events to anchor proprietary deal flow and syndication.

4. Lead deal processes: Manage diligence teams, financial modeling, term sheet negotiation, and investment committee recommendations.

5. Support portfolio: Advise on operations, growth, and exits while tracking performance against fund IRR targets.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

1. Experience: 5+ years direct VC investing in tech startups (pre-seed to Series A), with a proven track record of sourced and closed deals. Employees from crowdfunding platforms need not apply—seeking traditional VC practitioners only.

2. Education: Engineering or technical degree (B.Tech/M.Tech or equivalent); advanced analytical skills for modeling and tech diligence are essential.

3. Attributes: Deep ecosystem knowledge in Bengaluru and a deep desire to learn about emerging tech through primary and secondary sources.

Reporting & Compensation:

1. Reports directly to the Head of Investments.

2. Base salary ≥ ₹30 lakh CTC, plus GP ESOPs, bonuses, and benefits aligned with high-performance VC norms.
