About the Role
Venture capital investors and startup CEOs have amazing stories to tell – both locally and globally. The best investments in the world have been made in stories that resonate and therefore how we tell these stories is non- trivial. Additionally, there can be a lot of noise around the VC and startup ecosystem so it is crucial to rise above the noise with insightful, relevant and compelling communication. We are a dynamic and creative team, with a responsibility to help drive marcomm activities for our portfolio and our investment firm. Our distribution channels include social media, PR, newsletters and our websites.
Key Responsibilities
Having a strong brand presence is vital in the globally-competitive world of venture investing. In a few short years, we have built strong brands for our global investing (Capria Ventures) and for our India-specific early-stage investing (Capria Ventures India). We use customary tools for brand-building: web, email, social, earned media, and thought leadership. We also assist portfolio companies in their brand building and communications needs, focused especially on the earlier-stage portfolio in India. For our portfolio companies in growth stages, we support them in building a global presence. You will be responsible for leading a small team of in-house communications professionals and a network of independent consultants and service providers to continue to build the Capria brand as well as those of select portfolio companies. You will be responsible for evaluating and developing a comprehensive communication strategy, branding, messaging, planning and coordinating marketing efforts, and continuously growing multi-channel visibility and brand value.
More specifically:
- Responsible for producing valuable content for the company’s online presence, editorial design, and organizing the company’s publications across all communication channels – PR, websites, social media, newsletters, and other strategic initiatives.
- Become the organization’s agent towards external parties such as media, stakeholders, and potential clients and build strategic partnerships.
- Design and implement comprehensive marketing strategies to create awareness of the firm’s and portfolio’s business activities.
- Take end-to-end ownership of projects and deliver independently, with global-standard quality of execution.
- Maintain and build new relationships with service provider partners.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate’s bag of tricks should include some or all of the following:
- 8-10 years of industry experience in marketing, backed by an MBA or equivalent industry experience.
- Experience managing a team of at least 2-5 professionals with global-standard management practices, ensuring clarity of objectives and excellent team performance.
- Work experience including overseas assignments, and/or for multinational companies, and/or with agencies supporting the same, making you largely fluent in international business practices.
- Ability to deal well with ambiguity, starting with challenging high-level goals, exploring potential execution strategies, adjusting as you go and learn, and ultimately delivering exceptional results.
- Deep understanding of B2B marketing, with a modest understanding of B2C.
- Excellent writing skills and command of global English coupled with the ability to coach team members as they develop content ranging from short-form social media to long-form thought leadership.
- Demonstrated creative abilities in design thinking for websites, campaigns, or any form of
visual communication. - At least 1-year experience working with a startup, or alongside a startup in a service provider, or an agency role, or at a scaling startup (series A onwards), or with a VC fund.
- A passport with a few stamps in it over the past 5-10 years.

- You’ve worked with global and local teams and seamlessly transition between them – understanding the
synergies and the nuanced differences. - You are entrepreneurial about your work and have a high bar for accountability.
- You understand that a great work culture is as much about you as it is about the others in the organization.
- You know when to delegate and when you have to roll up your sleeves and get the job done and are comfortable with both.
- And because its two of the most important skills we want you to have-you love research and writing- and can definitively be called a WRITER-THINKER.

Additional Information
Bangalore, India, and occasional travel to other Global South regions and Seattle. Our firm has globally adopted a hybrid home/office model which is still evolving; you should anticipate spending ~4 days per week in our offices in Ulsoor.
