OVERVIEW: 
Contributes to and supports Prosperity 7 Ventures (AVMCC) team by identifying, executing and managing venture fund. Helps supports administration of deal flow management and analysis of market and competitor activity.

SCOPE:
Identifies and executes opportunities within their defined region in conjunction with the AVMCC team.
Focus is on start-ups in high-growth sectors such as Artificial Intelligence, IoT, Robotics, Data Storage, Semiconductors, Fintech, Cybersecurity, Foodtech, Enterprise Software, and Deep Tech.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:  
Market Research

  • Performs market research to help identify new investment trends and opportunities in the venture capital sector in US
  • Performs mapping of startup activity, competitive landscapes and market trends in specified industry subsectors
  • Networks with peers in other Venture Capital firms
  • Sources deal flow through conferences, trade press and desk research
  • Prioritizes deal flow based on quality, economic soundness and potential (~30%)

Due Diligence

  • Gathers information from target companies and industry experts
  • Researches and talks to existing references and customers of target companies
  • Researches and talks with technical/business consultants to evaluate target companies’ technology including IPs
  • Researches potential competitors to the target company
  • Conducts background checks on current management of target companies
  • Performs valuation analysis through financial modeling
  • Performs data room reviews and maintains due diligence tracking. (~25%)

Reporting and Documentation

  • Prepares internal investment memos
  • Supports periodic reporting on performance of fund and direct venture capital investments.
  • Ensures transaction documents are on file and maintained   (~20%)
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business/Finance disciplines from a leading university. MBA from a top business school or CFA preferred.
  • Developing knowledge of core concepts in competitive and market strategy, start-ups, technology commercialization, intellectual property, financial analysis (including experience with cash flow modeling and investment valuation techniques), investment analysis, valuation, negotiation, due diligence.

Ability to:

  • use financial and non-financial skills to analyze problems in a logical manner and recommend solutions with consideration for the long and short-term impact of proposed solutions.
  • assimilate the commercial potential of new technologies and identify opportunities and risks, and assess investment opportunities.
  • display verbal and written communication skills, clearly articulate and both support and challenge ideas and recommendations.
  • utilize relationship skills and proactively engage with peers and start-up company management to resolve issues.
  • Proficient with business software applications.
  • Typically, minimum 2 to 4 years of experience in venture capital, corporate venture capital, corporate development, consulting, investment banking, private equity, start-up leadership or related fields.
  • International experience or ability to work across international cultures is desirable.
  • Must be able to comprehend and communicate accurately, clearly and concisely in English.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED  

No supervisory responsibilities, but may serve as a resource to others.

DECISION MAKING & SUPERVISION RECEIVED  

  • Applies established practices and procedures and follows approved policies.
  • Receives general supervision from Executive Managing Director and performs workstreams with guidance from senior staff.
  • Typically receives detailed instructions only on new assignments.
  • Expected to work with only general supervision.

BUSINESS CONTACTS

  • Frequent contacts with all levels of management within AVMCC.  Presents new projects or venture capital plans.
  • Typically active in national and international professional organizations within area of expertise.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL ACTIVITY  

  • Primarily office environment.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and bend with good balance, use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms.
  • Regularly required to sit, perform repetitive duties, use standard office equipment and to talk and hear.
  • Close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus is needed.
  • Occasionally required to lift, move and carry up to 10 pounds.
  • Travels approximately 10% of the time outside of normal work locations to US locations for site visits, calls, and interviews with start-up management.
