About the Fund:

Lumikai combines the Latin word for “light” and the Japanese word for “tribe”.

Lumikai is the pioneering VC fund catalysing India’s gaming & interactive media revolution.

We are India’s first seed stage venture capital fund operating exclusively in India’s interactive entertainment ecosystem. We are a 100% operator driven, partner led fund with founding partners who have been in the gaming, media & entertainment business with combined experience of over 3 decades.

Lumikai Fund I has $40M under management from Fund I, and is now launching a $50M Fund II. The fund has already completed its oversubscribed first close for Fund II. This brings Lumikai’s total investment target into India’s gaming and interactive media sector to be over $90M.

At Lumikai, we are building a tribe of India’s most forward thinking, creative and talented founders. The leadership team combines decades of strategic experience and sector knowledge while leveraging all-star local and global networks to help propel founders to success.

The fund invests across five key thesis areas:

1. Gaming content, original IP and digital media

2. UGC/PGC platforms and creator economy

3. Tools, tech and infrastructure

4. Companies leveraging “systems of play”, applied game mechanics and interactive touchpoints across industries and value chains (e.g. edtech, healthtech, fintech)

5. Frontier bets, including mixed reality, generative AI, Web 3.0, virtual identities, edge computing etc.

The average ticket sizes for the fund ranges between $500K – $1.2M for meaningful equity positions.

We have already backed some of India’s leading games companies including Bombay Play (building global hypersocial, cross-platform games), Loco (India’s leading game streaming platform), and Elo Elo (creator-led, social gaming, live streaming platform), Studio Sirah and several others. Our portfolio has collectively raised ~$100M, employs 300+ people and seen co-investments from marquee global investors like Sequoia, Lightspeed, Stellaris, Krafton, Kalaari Capital, Makers Fund, Hiro Capital, Hashed etc.

Job Role Specification

We are now seeking an Investment Analyst to work very closely with the investment team to curate deal-flow, create research documents, craft investment thesis, evaluate inbound investment opportunities, assist in managing the team’s deal-flow pipeline, support portfolio companies with analysis, and construct quarterly reports for Lumikai’s limited partners (LPs) covering fund and portfolio performance.

Deal-flow

Sourcing deal-flow, evaluating pitches and manage the deal-flow process

Deal Sourcing

• Proactively source potential deals from databases/platforms/public domain, including Appstore research/Steam, Angelist/Linkedin/Tracxn/ProductHunt, Inc 42/Entrackr/ Your Story, and Twitter/Reddit
• Enable rapid deal-sourcing at incorporation/pre-announcement stage
• Build ecosystem connections to enable dealflow referrals
• Be entrenched in the start-up landscape to identify early stage/stealth founders

Deal-flow Process Management

• Ensure deal-flow trackers are up-to-date and correctly populated
• Track inactivity and manage follow-ups with deal-flow companies

Pitch Evaluation & Screening

·       Evaluate funding pitches and categorise appropriately

·       Follow-up on interesting opportunities and build investment cases for presentation to the wider team

IC Memo & Deal Diligence

·       Undertaking commercial and product diligence on deep dive deals

·       Creation of IC notes and investment memos for successful deals

·       Management of IC process

Transaction Support

·       Following investment processes and checklists during diligence and transaction phase

·       Supporting investment team on new deals and portfolio follow-ons

·       Liasoning with legal and financial diligence team during transactions

·       Providing requisite transaction support to deal leads to ensure timely and error-free closure of transactions

• “Panorama” is our in-house, proprietary newsletter circulated monthly to our to our select global network and LP base.
• Contribute original analysis
• Collate key highlights of India’s interactive industry and portfolio news

Investment thesis

• Create presentation materials and blog posts to validate/discount investment hypotheses from:

o   Existing data/analysis

o   Own proprietary research

Marketing & Fundraising

• Construct marketing materials (presentations, graphics) pertinent to Lumikai’s portfolio, investment performance and outlook to aid in future fundraising, where required

Portfolio Assistance

Assist in the operational requirements of the fund and its portfolio companies

Analytical Support

• On an ad-hoc basis, provide additional analytical/operational support to our portfolio companies:

o   Market & competitor research

o   Product overviews

o   Assistance in recruitment and identification of talent

o   Assistance in fundraising, helping craft fundraising story and materials

o   Modelling follow-on scenarios

o   Reviewing monthly portfolio MIS’s

LP Reporting

Assist the investment team in LP deliverables
